Windows Mobile Freaks

We all know and love tower defense games, they have been available for years and years and have entertained people for hours at end. There since recently there is a tower defense game released for the Windows Mobile WVGA/VGA platform. If you don't already know what a tower defense game is, enemies spawn on your screen that have to go through a map towards your base and damage it. You as the commander of this base have to defend your base by placing towers on the map that fire at the enemies. Tower defense is one of the most fun games you can find on the Windows Mobile platform.

When you play the game, over time enemies start coming from one side of the playing field to the other where they try to reach your home base. When you are unable to stop the enemies from entering your base and doing their damage you lose health. You have to prevent this because when your home base is destroyed you have lost the game. You must place your towers wisely in the way of the enemies to your base. This Windows Mobile VGA game features 6 different towers that can be used to defend your base. The towers can do different damage to the incoming enemies and there for you need a proper mix. Though it's not completely clear what the different towers do, so you have to observe against what enemies they work best. And it can be quite tedious to find a right mix of towers if this remains in the dark.

As you kill enemies with your mix of towers you gain more money, with your new earned funds you can opt for upgrading your towers or buying new ones. Towers upgrade 2 times and they get better graphics and often increase in size, bigger guns, more guns or recolor graphics are part of this.

There are 2 levels that you can play and they are quite different so it often calls for a different strategy. The game has 3 difficulties easy, normal and hard, the suggested difficulty is easy unless you are a tower defense veteran. High score and other settings can be found in the options menu. The only downside is that there is no option to save your game to different slots, there is only one save game available. If you decide to start a new game you cannot resume the game you played before that.

This game is one of the best and most fun games featured on the newer WVGA/VGA Windows Mobile devices you can find. Tower defense fanatic or not, you should really consider getting this game for your Windows Mobile phone, it is one of the better games that have ever graced the Windows Mobile game platform. There are little things that aren’t perfect about this game, like the missing save option and the unclear tower functions. These little things don't bring the game down that much though and the game would get at least a 8 out of 10.

A great Windows Phone game can be hard to find at times. But the one reviewed here today is a real gem, and best of all it's completely free. Totem Star Lite is a  straightforward but great puzzle game for the Windows Phone platform. Totem Star Lite does it’s thing suburb on the WVGA devices, and as an enthusiastic gamer who loves the new WVGA devices, and games that work on these phones I just had to test this new game.

This WVGA game(and other resolutions) is available for free via the developer website – Touch Dimensions. Where you can download it as a .cab file to install on your phone. The cab file can be either downloaded directly to your mobile phone or copied over through your operating system with Active Sync or Bluetooth. This WVGA game requires that you have MS .NET Compact Framework 3.5 placed on your Windows Mobile Smartphone device. You can install it through searching around in the search engines and the Microsoft site.

This WVGA compatible game that was previously known as “Dream Catcher” but for unknown reason was later renamed to Totem Star. In this game you lead the destiny of your fellow tribesmen through the stars or so according to the creators of the game. Totem Star is set in the Native American desert sunset. The goal of the game is to Lasso stars of similar shape or color. You can also make combination in as the authors say – ‘an infinite variety of patterns’ which in reality will most likely be quite finite. But there are plenty combinations possible and a lot to be found out in the game play.

Totem Star Lite is easy to start playing, but you will soon discover that the game is much deeper as it appears to be from the start. The goal of the game is to make certain patterns from the stars that spawn randomly in the nightly heavens. The patterns can be found in the bottom right corner of the screen. Just below a totem pole that you have to fill up to have your fellow tribesmen build more buildings, which results into a new pattern and a better highscore.
When you need to make certain combinations you can force the color star to appear in the game area by making a certain combination to force a certain color to spawn. The combinations you can make in the game can be found on Touch Dimensions website that you can find with Google.

The game play is fun, and keeps you busy for quite some time. The background music is is very relaxing and the entire atmosphere of the game is just great. Though these days it’s all about finger friendliness of applications and games this one actually plays better with the stylus. This is because you have to draw patterns between sometimes close by stars and having your finger in the way does more harm then good. The game plays fine with a finger if you are not that bothered with getting the best highscore that day. In the options menu of the game you can view your current highscore and switch between music/sound enabled or disabled. Other then that it’s just a great entertaining WVGA game that works on all devices it was tested on, QVGA, VGA, WVGA and more. Be sure to try this gem of a game, which on top of it all is free.
